How to Transfer your .com, .net domain names to Melbourne IT:

  1. Download Melbourne IT's Transfer Application Form

  2. Fax your completed transfer application to Melbourne IT on + 61 3 9620 2250

  3. Melbourne IT will validate and initiate your transfer of registrar request.

    PLEASE NOTE: You need to be the Admin Contact of the domain name to complete your .com,.net transfer request. To view your domain name contact details see the WHOIS records of your current domain name registrar.

    If the Admin contact details are incorrect, please contact your current domain registrar to update your information. In the event you do not know who is your current domain name registrar visit: http://whois.melbourneit.com.au to find out.

  4. Once your transfer of registrar request is initiated and validated the transfer can take 9-15 days to complete. All domain name transfers must undergo a mandatory 'cooling off' period with the respective Registry before it is assigned to Melbourne IT as the new registrar.

    Important Note: Your domain name transfer request may be rejected for the following reasons:

    • The domain name has expired and the current registrar has locked the domain
    • The domain name has been locked for security reasons
    • The domain name is less than 60 days old
    • A pending bankruptcy of the domain name licence holder.
    • A dispute over the identity of the domain name licence holder
    • Situations described in the Domain Name Dispute Resolution
    • Any other valid reason

  5. If your transfer request is accepted, Melbourne IT will send a confirmation e-mail and 1 year is added to your existing .com,.net licence. The entire transfer of registrar process will normally take 9-15 days.

    Your domain name operations will not be affected during this time.
