How do I transfer a domain name to Melbourne IT?

Transfer domain names to Melbourne IT

Before you transfer your domain names to Melbourne IT, you must make sure:

1. You have the domain password (authinfo) for your domain name
2. Ensure your domain name is unlocked with your current Registrar
3. The contact details for your domain name, including the admin email address, are up to date

Steps to transfer domain name into Melbourne IT

1. Go to the Transfers Page
2. Enter the domain name you want to transfer, and its password into the boxes provided
3. Click Begin Transfer

Please note: Only .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .us and .au domain names can be transferred in this way. Other domain names cannot be transferred.

Transfer domain name to another Registrar

In order to initiate an outbound transfer request from Melbourne IT, you will need the following steps.

1. For all transfers, an Authorisation Code is mandatory. To obtain your Authorisation Code, please refer to the Authorisation/EPP code recovery guide
2. Upon transfer, the status of your domain name is crucial. For all transfers to be initiated, the domain must be unlocked. This is represented by the domain status Active in a WHOIS Lookup. If the domain is locked, then you are required to get it unlocked. Refer to Lock/Unlock user guides.
3. Whether it's an inbound or outbound transfer, current and up-to-date contact details are required for communication purposes amongst you and the Registrar. In particular, your Administrative email address needs to be valid and operational. If you need to update your email, please refer to Update contact details
4. Once the above steps have been fulfilled, you are now able to lodge a transfer request with your gaining Registrar.

Please note: An outbound transfer may take 5 - 10 calendar days for a gTLD domain space (.com, .net, .org, etc) and up to 5 calendar days for a .au domain space.

Please note: To avoid any disturbance to you and your business, ensure you initiate your transfer well before your domain name expiry date.
