Why choose an .au domain name?
Do you do business in Australia?
Are you an Australian individual?
If so, then .au is for you.
Australians are more comfortable dealing with a local company and this is particularly important if you want to sell online. Getting an .au domain name lets your customers know you're a legitimate Australian business.
An Australian domain name can help your potential Australian customers find you easier. Search engines like Google Australia and Yahoo Australia ask if you want to search Australian pages only, so if you have an .au, you are more likely to have a higher search engine ranking.
